Annoying Email" is a song about feeling like you're bothering people with your long annoying emails.
This is the last song that I wrote for the album, so it is my signature Chaotic Last Minute Addition Song (CLMAS)! My CLMAS for my first album hatemail was "Who has ADHD Now lol" and it is one of my favorite songs I've ever made.
The hallmarks of a good CLMAS (IMHO):
- Chaotic
- Seems like a joke, but is not
- Originally written "just for fun" with no intention of release (which I personally find to be the best mindset for making things)
Total bop
I wrote this one during "escapril" 2023, which is a month-long poetry / writing challenge where they give you a prompt every day. The prompt for day 12 was Artificial Intelligence.
I had just written Totally Real Records Bryan a really long annoying email planning for the Snake Facts CDs in which I apologized for being annoying like 5 times. And he wrote a response, and I guess copied it into Chat GPT and directed it to make his email as annoying and apologetic as possible. It starts off "I'm so sorry to bother you" and ends with "thank you for your patience" - needless to say, this was the real poetry inspiration I needed to write a CLMAS.
Another very exciting thing about this CLMAS is that it features my good friend Kabir Kumar AKA Sun Kin. Before he came in, the only instruments on the song were fake synth bass. For some reason I thought it would be funny to make a song where the only instrument was bass, and it was just being played in a bunch of different octaves. I really like constraints like this. Without constraints, I am totally overwhelmed with possibilities. Some of my annoying little fake bass parts made it into the final song - see if you can find them.
Kabir did an awesome job of making the real bass go hard and really opening up the second chorus, all while still retaining the "annoyingness" of the original idea.
lyrics
Thank you
For your patience
I am waiting
On someone else
I’m sorry
For your patience
I am thank you
For your
Well the thing
Is anybody mad at me?
I’m sorry
If you are you have to tell me
(Per my last message)
This is not my fault
I don't know what you're talking about, Steve
We can circle back whenever you have the time
I'm available
All of the time
Sorry to bother you
Over email
I don't really wanna hear your voice right now
Over email
Sorry if that didn't make sense
Thank you for your patience
It's been a long week
For everyone
Haha
Is anybody mad at me?
I’m serious
Is anybody mad at me?
I’m sorry
You have to tell me
It's all my fault
I don't know what to do
To make it up to you
Is anybody mad at me?
Is anybody mad at me?
I am sorry
I am sorry
I am sorry
Pacing is the songwriting and recording project of Katie McTigue. McTigue’s writing style has been described as “tongue
firmly planted in cheek” (Surviving the Golden Age, 2022), an “off-kilter and wonderfully weird world” (CLOUT, 2022), and “I don’t get it” (multiple sources). Despite her safety net of colorful characters, jokes, and metaphors, the real her always manages to slip in somewhere....more
