This song started with an exercise where I did a stream-of-consciousness (hate that phrase lol) response to the poem You Can't Have It All by Barbara Ras. An excerpt:

You can have the purr of the cat and the soulful look
of the black dog, the look that says, If I could I would bite
every sorrow until it fled, and when it is August,
you can have it August and abundantly so.

I liked the poem, but something about how flowery it is put me into defiance mode. Why are Real Poets to obsessed with nature?

And thus, the Real Poetry theme was born.
